a5c7b9f00b Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank Ponch Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles, but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten-up former pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Directed by, Written by, Starring: Dax Shepard<br/><br/>Let&#39;s start here. The directing was great. The writing was interesting. His acting… meh. I feelif Dax Shepard&#39;s character had some bi- polar issues. Was it the actual acting or poor writing for his characterJon? Not sure, but he wasn&#39;t convincing.<br/><br/>The humor was a little stale or overplayed, I wasn&#39;t that impressed with the comedy overall.<br/><br/>Now having Michael Peña play Ponch, his character and acting were all on point,was Kristen Bell&#39;s characterKaren.<br/><br/>It was also refreshing to see a cameo by Erik Estrada… that guy ages well!<br/><br/>Fun ride with a nice story, but it&#39;s only a 7/10 from me. I had read other IMDb reviews on this one going in, so I probably should&#39;ve considered another film elsewhere. But being a bit of a CHiPs fan, i wanted to see how badly the remake factory in Hollywood butchered this one.<br/><br/>The only thing that was lifted from the TV series was the names - Baker &amp; Poncherello and everything else is simply unoriginal. And when i say that, i mean sex and toilet humor. it&#39;s all been done before and it&#39;s not funny anymore. Even the idea of cameos are unoriginal. You just knew Erik Estrada was gonna pop up somewhere.<br/><br/>The plot is a hackplot - Within the CHP lies a group of corrupt cops. Our heroes have to find out who they are, provided that Jon Baker can stop dwelling on his cheating wife and Ponch can stop dwelling on his desire for sex to the point he has a chronic masturbation problem. I&#39;m not kidding.<br/><br/>Oh yeah, and Jane Kaczmarek? I&#39;m pretty sure she had a body double but her character appearsa topless, sex-depraved cougar in this one. She&#39;s also the boys&#39; boss. I&#39;ll let you think about that one.<br/><br/>To sum this one up, Hollywood sure loves it&#39;s 70&#39;s/80&#39;s TV show remakes (Baywatch comes out later this year) But i&#39;ve learned from watching past remakes like Dukes of Hazzard and Starsky &amp; Hutch never to expect much from remakes. just a complete soiling of what made TV back then so classic. While CHIPS sure is goofy, it falls flat compared to other buddy-cop comedies in its genre, relying too heavily on unpleasant sex jokes (often revolving around gay panic) and a nonsensical crime plot.
